Sand Tray Therapy
A creative, hands-on way to explore experiences that may be difficult to put into words. Sand tray therapy can be adapted for people of all ages—not only children—including teens and adults.
Sand tray therapy uses a tray of sand and small figures or objects to create a scene or image. The process can offer another way to notice feelings, relationships, memories, or questions that are present for you. You choose what to include and what, if anything, you want to share about it.
How it may fit into counselling
Sand tray work is one optional approach Maria may draw on in counselling. It can be used alongside conversation and other approaches, depending on your goals and preferences. There is no single right way to use the tray, and you do not need to explain or interpret what you create. You and Maria can decide together whether it feels like a helpful fit.
Maria’s training
Maria has completed Foundations in Sand Tray Therapy through the Canadian Sand Tray Institute. This foundational training informs how she offers sand tray as one possible creative approach in her counselling practice.
In-person sessions
Because sand tray uses a physical tray, this option is available with Maria during in-person counselling at our Shelbourne Street office. Maria also offers counselling online; sand tray may not be available in online sessions.
