Programs
Supporting growth by pairing counselling with education.
Counselling can be a powerful space for reflection, understanding, and change. At Harbour Family Counselling, we have also found that learning practical skills through structured programs can deepen and strengthen the benefits of counselling.
When people understand why emotions and behaviours happen, and learn tools for responding differently, it becomes easier to create meaningful change in daily life. Education helps bring new perspective, while counselling provides the space to explore how those insights apply to your personal and family experiences.
For this reason, we offer a small number of carefully designed programs that can complement counselling and help individuals and families build lasting skills.
Our programs focus on two important areas:
• Supporting parents in developing tools that create calmer and more connected family dynamics
• Helping children learn emotional awareness and regulation skills in ways that feel engaging and supportive
Together, these programs provide practical guidance that families can carry into everyday life.
Parent Support Program
Parenting is one of the most meaningful roles in life, yet it can also be one of the most challenging. Many parents come to counselling looking for guidance, reassurance, and practical tools that help them navigate daily challenges with greater confidence.
Our Parent Support Program combines counselling insight with structured learning so parents can build skills that bring more calm and connection into the home. Through guided education and supportive discussion, parents learn how to regulate their own emotions, understand their child’s behaviour more clearly, and respond in ways that strengthen the parent-child relationship.
The program offers practical strategies that can be applied right away while also supporting deeper, long-term change in how families communicate and relate to one another. When paired with counselling, this type of learning often helps parents move from feeling overwhelmed to feeling more capable and grounded in their parenting.
This program is called Chaos to Calm and helps parents develop emotional awareness and practical parenting strategies that create more stability at home.
Child Support Program
Children often benefit from learning emotional skills in a supportive and structured environment. While counselling can help children explore their feelings, programs designed specifically for skill-building can give them practical tools they can use in everyday situations.
Our Child Support Program helps children develop emotional awareness and regulation skills in a way that feels engaging and age-appropriate. Through guided activities and interactive lessons, children learn how to recognize their feelings, understand what those feelings mean, and develop strategies for managing them.
Parents also receive updates and insights that help reinforce these skills at home, allowing the whole family to benefit from the learning process. When education and counselling work together, children often gain confidence in their ability to handle emotions and navigate relationships more successfully.
The Mood Managers program focuses on helping children ages 8–11 develop emotion regulation skills and build a personalized plan for managing their feelings.
