Individual Counselling for Adults
In-person therapy sessions available for Victoria, Saanich and Sidney residents and virtual sessions throughout British Columbia
Support for What You’re Carrying
You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected. Perhaps you’re navigating a loss, a difficult relationship or a change you didn’t choose. Or you’ve noticed patterns you want to understand and approach differently.
Counselling offers time and space to explore what’s happening, understand your needs and find practical ways forward. You don’t need a diagnosis or a clear explanation of what’s wrong to reach out.
At Harbour Family Counselling, we support adults as individuals while recognizing how relationships, family experiences and everyday demands shape their lives.
Adults come to counselling for many reasons, including:
Anxiety, worry or feeling overwhelmed
Low mood, depression or feeling disconnected
Stress, burnout and competing demands
Grief, loss and adjusting to change
Relationship difficulties and family tension
Self-esteem, self-criticism and confidence
The effects of difficult or traumatic experiences
Navigating adulthood with ADHD
Exploring identity, values and what matters to you
You may have a specific concern or simply feel that something needs to change. We’ll help you explore your needs and find a suitable starting point.
What We Can Help With
Counselling gives you time to step back from everyday demands and pay attention to your own experience. Your counsellor will work with you to understand what feels difficult, what matters to you and what you hope will change.
Sessions may include exploring experiences and relationship patterns, developing practical coping skills, or trying new ways of responding to difficult thoughts and feelings. The approach will depend on your needs, preferences and your counsellor’s training.
Together, you might work on:
Understanding your emotions and needs
Responding to stress with greater flexibility
Recognizing patterns that leave you feeling stuck
Setting boundaries and communicating more clearly
Building self-compassion and confidence
Making decisions that reflect your values
Finding ways to move through loss or change
You don’t need to share everything at once. Your counsellor will work at a manageable pace and check in about what is helping.
What Counselling Can Look Like
Support From a Collaborative Team
You work with a primary counsellor who takes time to understand your needs. When helpful, our counsellors draw on professional consultation within our team, with appropriate confidentiality safeguards.
If support for a partner or another family member would be useful, we can discuss options and agree on how care will be coordinated. You can also attend individual counselling on your own, regardless of whether anyone else in your family participates.

What to Expect
1. Book a Free 15-Minute Intake Call
Talk with our intake team about what’s bringing you to counselling. We’ll answer questions, help identify a suitable counsellor and explain the next steps. If you would like to meet a counsellor before booking, a consultation call can also be arranged.
2. Attend Your First Appointment
Your counsellor will ask about your concerns, relevant experiences and what you hope to get from counselling. They will explain how they work, discuss confidentiality and answer your questions. This is also an opportunity to get a sense of whether the relationship feels like a good fit.
3. Decide What to Work On Together
You and your counsellor will discuss goals, an approach to care and how often to meet. As counselling progresses, you’ll revisit what is helping and adjust the focus as your needs change.
