Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in Victoria, BC

What is CBT?

CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. It’s a practical, evidence-based approach that helps you notice how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours are linked. When certain patterns begin to feel overwhelming, CBT can offer simple tools to shift how you respond, helping you feel more in control.

CBT is collaborative. You and your counsellor will work together to better understand your experiences and take steady steps toward change.

Why People Choose CBT

Many people appreciate CBT because it offers clarity, direction, and a strong foundation of research. It doesn’t ask you to relive everything from your past. Instead, it focuses on what’s happening now and how small shifts can lead to real relief.

CBT is commonly used for anxiety, depression, perfectionism, low self-esteem, and difficulty sleeping. It’s a flexible approach that can be shaped to fit what you’re going through.

How CBT Can Help

CBT may be helpful if you’re:

  • caught in racing thoughts or constant worry

  • stuck in a cycle of procrastination or self-doubt

  • feeling emotionally flat or unmotivated

  • struggling with sleep, energy, or concentration

  • wanting practical steps to manage daily stress

Together, we’ll look at what’s keeping you stuck and gently build new ways of coping.

What Sessions Are Like

CBT sessions are focused but supportive. You and your counsellor might explore a recurring thought, practice a new way of responding, or try out a calming technique.

Some clients like having exercises between sessions, such as journaling or tracking progress. Others prefer to keep everything inside the session. You’ll never be asked to do anything that doesn’t feel right for you.

Sessions are available in person at our Cedar Hill Cross Road office or online throughout British Columbia.

CBT as Part of Our Counselling Style

At Harbour Family Counselling, CBT is one of the many tools we use to help you feel better. We often combine it with other gentle approaches like Internal Family Systems, mindfulness, and emotion-focused therapy.

You don’t need to know what kind of therapy you want when you reach out. We’ll get to know you first and then find a way forward together.
