Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) in Victoria, BC
What is Compassion-Focused Therapy?
Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) is a supportive, evidence-based approach that helps you build a kinder relationship with yourself. Many people struggle with self-criticism or feel overwhelmed by shame and anxiety. CFT helps you understand where these feelings come from and gives you tools to respond with care instead of judgment.
At the heart of this work is the belief that compassion is a skill that can be learned. You’ll work with a counsellor to gently shift how you relate to your emotions and create space for healing and self-acceptance.
Why Students and Adults Choose CFT
Compassion-Focused Therapy is especially helpful for people who feel stuck in cycles of negative thinking or who find it hard to forgive themselves. It’s often a good fit for students, young adults, and professionals who are navigating stress, perfectionism, or burnout.
Instead of trying to "fix" yourself, this approach helps you notice the pain you carry and respond to it with care. Many people find that CFT brings relief, clarity, and a greater sense of calm.
What Sessions Are Like
In CFT sessions, you’ll learn how your brain and body respond to stress, and how compassion can help balance those responses. You might explore practices like grounding, imagery, or guided reflection to support this process.
Your counsellor will meet you with warmth and patience, helping you work at a pace that feels right. There’s no pressure to perform or change quickly. It’s about building trust in yourself, one step at a time.
