Sandtray Therapy
A creative, hands-on way to explore experiences that may be difficult to put into words. Sandtray therapy is for people of all ages—not only children—including teens and adults.
Sandtray therapy uses a tray of sand and small figures or objects to create a scene or image. The process can offer another way to notice feelings, relationships, memories, or questions that are present for you. You choose what to include and what, if anything, you want to share about it.
How it may fit into counselling
Sandtray work is one optional approach Maria may draw on in counselling, alongside conversation and other approaches. After creating a scene, Maria may guide you through a conversation about the tray. Talking about what you notice can help bring words and reflection to feelings, memories, and meaning that emerged while working with the miniatures. This can be an important part of the process, especially for older children, teens, and adults. You can share at your own pace, and you do not have to talk about anything you would rather keep private. You and Maria can decide together whether this approach feels like a helpful fit.
Maria’s training
Maria has completed Foundations in Sandtray Therapy through the Canadian Sandtray Institute. This foundational training informs how she offers sand tray as one possible creative approach in her counselling practice.
In-person sessions
Because sandtray uses a physical tray, this option is available with Maria during in-person counselling at our Shelbourne Street office. Maria also offers counselling online; sand tray may not be available in online sessions.
