Join a collaborative, family-focused practice in Saanich, BC
Harbour Family Counselling is seeking one to two experienced RCCs or CCCs with demonstrated clinical competence and additional training in one or more of four areas: couples counselling, family counselling, child and teen counselling, and parent counselling and guidance.
You do not need to work in every area. We’re interested in the depth of experience you bring, the clients you work best with, and how your strengths could complement our team. Individual counselling may also form part of your caseload.
This opportunity is for clinicians who value independent clinical practice alongside thoughtful consultation, shared learning, and collaboration with colleagues.
The Role at a Glance
Openings: One to two counsellors, with complementary areas of expertise.
Location: Saanich, BC near University Heights; primarily in-person counselling, with virtual sessions where appropriate.
Arrangement: Independent contractor.
Compensation: $96 per completed 50-minute individual session; $114 per completed 50-minute couples or family session; $171 per completed 80-minute couples or family session.
Availability: Start with at least 10 available client appointment hours per week, with the intention of building toward approximately 15 across three weekly shifts as your caseload develops.
Scheduling: Shifts are organized into six-hour office blocks, allowing approximately five client appointment hours alongside time for preparation, notes, and breaks. We’ll agree on a consistent schedule that fits client needs, your availability, and room availability. After-school, evening, and/or weekend availability is an asset.
Why Join Harbour Family Counselling?
An established practice with room to grow
With several clinicians at or near capacity, we’re expanding our team to respond to inquiries for couples, family, child and teen, and parent counselling.
Practical support for your practice
Focus on clinical work with a welcoming counselling office, Jane booking and charting access, and a professional email address. Our intake coordinator helps clients connect with a counsellor whose experience, approach, and availability fit their needs. Our operations manager handles insurance direct billing and office administration, with support for billing and payment processing. Your website profile and practice marketing also help clients find and connect with you.
Connection, consultation and shared learning
Regular professional development opportunities include monthly team meetings for shared learning and conversations about building the practice. Participation in these meetings is part of the role.
We also offer optional peer consultation time every two weeks to discuss clinical questions, consider different perspectives, and receive feedback from colleagues. This is peer consultation, rather than clinical supervision.
Clinical autonomy and collaboration
Bring your clinical approach and professional judgment to your work, with opportunities to keep growing alongside colleagues. When clients choose coordinated care, you can collaborate with colleagues supporting other members of the family, with appropriate consent and clear clinical roles.
Areas of Practice
We welcome applicants with demonstrated clinical competence and relevant additional training in one or more of the following areas. You do not need to practise in all four. Referrals and your caseload will reflect your experience, interests, and areas of competence.
Couples Counselling
Support partners in understanding recurring relationship patterns, navigating conflict, strengthening connection, and working through transitions.
Relevant training may include Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy (EFT/EFCT), Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Integrative Behavioral Couple Therapy (IBCT), or another established couples approach.
We’re interested in clinicians who can guide sessions actively and collaboratively, engage both partners, and assess when joint counselling is appropriate.
Family Counselling
Facilitate sessions with multiple family members, including children and teens with caregivers, adult children with parents, siblings, and other family relationships.
We value a strong grounding in family systems and the ability to guide conversations, make room for competing perspectives, and manage complex emotional and relationship dynamics.
Relevant training may include systemic family therapy, Attachment-Based Family Therapy, Emotionally Focused Family Therapy through ICEEFT, or Emotion-Focused Family Therapy associated with Adele Lafrance. Please describe your experience facilitating family sessions, supporting caregivers, or both.
Child and Teen Counselling
Provide developmentally appropriate counselling that respects each young person’s needs, interests, identity, and family context.
We particularly welcome training and clinical experience in Child-Centred Play Therapy, developmentally adapted CBT, Trauma-Focused CBT, and DBT for adolescents. Formal play therapy certification is an asset, but is not required.
Thoughtful work with parents and caregivers is an important part of this area, alongside appropriate consent, confidentiality, and clinical boundaries.
Applicants with relevant DBT experience may also have opportunities to contribute to our developing teen DBT programme, including potential co-facilitation, depending on their experience and programme needs.
Parent Counselling and Guidance
Help parents and caregivers understand their children’s needs, respond to emotional and behavioural challenges, strengthen connection, and develop collaborative ways forward.
This work may involve parents attending on their own, with another caregiver, or as part of a coordinated family counselling plan.
We particularly welcome experience with emotion coaching, relationship repair, and helping caregivers work through barriers to responding as they intend. Emotion-Focused Family Therapy associated with Adele Lafrance and other relevant parent-focused training are valued.
Our parent work aligns with the practice’s Chaos to Calm programme and its focus on supporting parents as an important part of supporting children and families.
Our Vision and Team Approach
We help families move from feeling stuck and unheard toward listening with curiosity, understanding one another’s concerns, and finding ways forward together. Our goal is to support collaborative problem-solving that makes room for everyone’s needs.
Families are interconnected, and we believe the support we offer is stronger when we are connected too. With appropriate consent and clear clinical roles, our team brings different perspectives, training, and experience to understanding and supporting family relationships.
We want our counsellors to feel part of a caring, skilled team where they can share questions, receive encouragement, and think through challenging work together. Supporting others takes energy. Receiving support while giving it helps make a counselling career sustainable.
Experience & Qualifications
Applicants must hold current Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) registration with BCACC or Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) certification with CCPA, in good standing.
We’re looking for:
Demonstrated clinical competence and relevant additional training in at least one of the areas above.
Readiness to practise independently, with sound clinical judgment.
A family systems perspective and respect for diverse identities, cultures, abilities, relationships, and family structures.
Thoughtful management of consent, confidentiality, safety, and professional boundaries.
Openness to consultation, feedback, shared learning, and collaboration.
Please describe the depth of your training, relevant supervised experience, and how you apply your approach in practice. Specialized certification is welcome but is not required unless specified.
